Emma’s work last night was pretty easy. Had a manners refresher, some minor “movement therapy” testing her ability to step under herself in the hind end. As expected, she has a harder time stepping her left hind over her right. We also did a little Masterson Method work, which I haven’t talked about yet. Wanda introduced me to his work because she was impressed with what he had done with one of her horses. I’d like to point out that I recognize that my abilities in massage are not exactly second nature to me. If someone puts my fingers right on the spot and says, “Here is a spasm” then I can feel it. Not so good at actually locating the problem spots myself. What intrigued me about Jim Masterson’s Method is that it looks like anybody can do it. Sign me up!
I did indeed sign up to do a weekend seminar, but it’s not until November. I can comment more about it at a later date. But in the meantime, there is a video available: Equine Massage for Performance Horses. It gives a great overview of the method – enough that you can go out and give it a try. I also had the opportunity to meet Jim last week and I’m really looking forward to the seminar.
